Set in Czechoslovakia, the drama follows the lives of its characters against the backdrop of real historical events that shape their personal stories. To evoke period atmosphere, the series intersperses authentic clips from vintage Czechoslovak film newsreels, using their original commentaries or newly recorded historical voice-overs by Vladimír Fišer. A narrator, initially voiced by Vojtěch Kotek and later by Matěj Hádek, provides continuity and reflection, guiding viewers through changing times. Under the guidance of screenwriter Rudolf Merkner, each episode’s script weaves family and individual dramas into key moments of Czech and Slovak history: political shifts, cultural trends, and social transformations from the 1960s onward.

This bittersweet film was Roman Vávra's feature debut. The film consists of three independent stories, all connected through the motif of a field of grain. In 'Awn' a young couple takes a summer stroll in the country, in 'The Haystack' a gang of boys have an adventure with an older girl, and 'The Journey' recounts the tragicomic homecoming of a pair of aging newlyweds. For only the second time in the nineties Czech star Iva Janzurová appeared on the silver screen.

Arthur Watkins' English conversational comedy has been successfully adapted to the Czech environment and the present day by screenwriter and director Jaroslav Brabec. Ondřej Bednář is a man whose life follows a strict routine. Convention and rationality are the corridors in which Ondřej, an exemplary father and meticulous golf course groundskeeper at the local club, feels safe. His wife Sylvie, on the other hand, is impulsive and chaotic, so they complement each other well. Ondřej would certainly not want to know that Sylvie was such a terrible driver that she ran into a baby carriage at an intersection. But what he suddenly has to keep secret...
